During a period of intense self-reflection -- and in an attempt to gain a better overstanding of the world around me -- I have turned my attention to Lao Tze's Tao Te Ching. I had originally read this book during my sophomore year at Howard, but admittedly retained little. Therefore, I thought it necessary to reread it. Within the confines of this book, I have selected a quotation which I feel best summarizes a path I am trying to attain. Of course this is an English translation of a very old Chinese script and I'm sure replete with errors and misinterpretations, however I still find the words to be thought provoking.
"He who knows other men is discerning; he who knows himself is intelligent. He who overcomes others is strong; he who overcomes himself is mighty. He who is satisfied with his lot is rich; he who goes on acting with energy has a (firm) will. He who does not fail in the requirements of his position, continues long; he who dies and yet does not perish, has longevity." Lao Tze, Tao Te Ching
Welcome
After successfully concluding my Fulbright in Jamaica, it's on to the next step . . . graduate school. This blog will document my journey through the M.A./Ph.D. program in Anthropology and the path toward becoming a professional archaeologist. Forgive me as the posts will likely be sporadic and at times extraneous.
